DFO Economic Impact Survey – Open until April 17

NOTE: Survey availability extended to April 17

Due to the extraordinary situation created by COVID-19, we understand that this is a challenging time for all.  Therefore, DFO has extended the deadline of the Survey of Lodges, Charters and Guides until April 17th to ensure that everyone is able to participate in the study.

The Sport Fishing Institute (SFI) is assisting Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) to distribute a survey designed to gain a better understanding of the economic implications of various fisheries management decisions affecting Canadians.

The tidal waters recreational fisheries in British Columbia offer anglers some of the premier fishing experiences in Canada. The last Survey of Recreational Fishing in Canada conducted in 2015 showed that almost 250,000 anglers fished in BC tidal waters. While pursuing their fishing activities, these anglers make a significant contribution to the economy of British Columbia.

The revenue generated through tidal angling supports the businesses that service the sector directly, such as lodges, guides and charters with the spin-off impacts distributed broadly throughout the local economy.

DFO is conducting a survey of lodge, charter and guide business operations in BC tidal waters.

The survey link is now live and available HERE until APRIL 17, 2020.
