INCREASING SURVIVAL OF RELEASED FISH
The SFI works with anglers, researchers, and other stakeholders to ensure a sustainable future for sport fishing on Canada’s West Coast.
Follow these Best Practices to increase survivability of released fish, including Chinook and Coho salmon.
HANDLE AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE
Use a Gaff boat side to minimize handling
Avoid Nets to prevent damage to fins and slime coat
ADJUST GEAR AND TACKLE
Use single hooks 3/0 or smaller to minimize damage
Use larger profile lures to reduce attractiveness to smaller fish
Avoid inline flashers/Utilize dummy flashers on downrigger balls
CONSIDER CURRENT CONDITIONS
