Join the Sport Fishing Institute of BC

Since 1980 the Sport Fishing Institute of BC has been working on behalf of over 250,000 anglers and the sport fishing community and industry to protect and enhance access to sustainable recreational fishing opportunities, the environment, our economy, and our coastal communities.

Join the SFI today and help us raise the resources needed to protect access and opportunity for sport fishing in BC now and for the future.

Protecting Our Sport

For over a century sport fishing has been an important part of BC’s heritage, culture, and is a highly valued part of the social and economic fabric of the lives of hundreds of thousands of British Columbians today. Allocation and access discussions are complex, competitive and require a determined, well informed, and consistent voice to ensure the future of our fishery. Through your active membership and financial support, we will continue to advocate on behalf of the recreational community to Federal and Provincial governments. We will continue our efforts to protect and promote sustainable access to fisheries resources and to ensure a better future for our fishery.

Protecting Your Rights

Since 1980, the SFI has been promoting and protecting the rights of British Columbians, including participation in legal cases heard in the Supreme Court of Canada. By growing our legal defense fund, we can ensure that, in cases that effect access and opportunities to fish and recreational fisheries, the recreational fishing community’s voice is heard.

Protecting Our Environment

Your membership in the SFI supports our efforts to protect and enhance BC’s coastal marine ecosystems. We utilize financial resources to expand and distribute campaigns to raise awareness and help educate British Columbians and visitors. We contribute to efforts to find meaningful solutions to the challenges faced by Southern Resident Killer whales, enhance our Chinook populations and to protect our waters from toxins and pollutants. With your support, we will continue to place the sustainability of our fishery and the resources they depend upon as the highest priority, and to work towards ensuring that the BC’s ecosystems are healthy and productive.

Forming a Coastal Alliance

The SFI plays a central role for a growing alliance of likeminded organizations, businesses, communities and individuals dedicated to promoting, protecting, and enhancing BC’s coastal environment and sustainable recreational sport fishing opportunities.
